Student of the Month - May 2022 (Aileen Torres)

Aileen Torres has a perfect plan to be a healthcare worker, but she is keeping it secret until she has accomplished her goals. Given her current list of accomplishments, there is no doubt that Aileen will successfully carry out that plan. This Sierra High School junior is a sharp student who boasts a 3.95 GPA. She stays busy throughout the school year by participating in volleyball, basketball, the National Honor Society, Peak Education, and as a student ambassador at the Children of Color Leadership Academy. As if that is not enough, Aileen has also volunteered at the Care and Share food bank, the Ronald McDonald House, and at the Mountain Vista Community School VIP Program.

Aileen’s favorite subject is math. She loves the challenge it presents and credits the excellent teachers from Harrison School District 2 with nurturing her love for the subject. Not one to keep knowledge to herself, Aileen stands ready to assist friends and classmates who struggle with math. She plans to incorporate her love of numbers and formulas into her career.  So, it is only fitting that she was matched with her mentor—Matt Woolfolk—through Peak Education. Aileen is grateful for the opportunity to meet with Mr. Woolfolk and glean from his valuable experience as an accountant.

Aileen is also thankful that her middle school counselor, Ronald Keels, encouraged her and her classmates to attend the AAYLC. She has attended since the sixth grade and has learned a lot from the workshops. We look forward to seeing Aileen at the 2023 AAYLC and hearing about more of her accomplishments!
