Student of the Month - May 2020 (Amirah Griffin)

Amirah Griffin is a 9th grader at Palmer High School in Colorado Springs.  Her love for connecting with people has drawn her to pageantry.  This platform allows her to meet new people and to participate on a big stage.  When she competed in the 2017 Miss High School America pageant, she won a four-year scholarship to Western State University.  Amirah plans to take pre-med classes and then attend medical school to become an OB/GYN.  She aspires to have her own medical practice one day.


Amirah has many talents and participates in acting, dancing, singing, swimming, lacrosse and tennis.  In addition, she enjoys music and plays the piano and clarinet.  Her favorite school subject is honors English. Writing essays is her preferred part of the course.

 
Amirah’s mentor is her mom.   She teaches her  to expand her mind towards the many opportunities and prospects in life  In Amirah’s spare time, she and her mom do what they can to serve in the community.  They make “blessing bags” that include personal hygiene items for the homeless.    A simple act of kindness can provide others with dignity and self-respect.  


Amirah has attended the AAYLC for one year.  She enjoyed meeting students from different schools and participating in several sessions that will help her achieve her dreams.
