Student of the Month - November 2019 (Blair Minnard)
Blair Minnard is an 8th grader at Carmel Middle School in Colorado Springs, with a 4.0 GPA. She enjoys science, and the premise that every action has a reaction, which can be said of life itself. Blair is musically inclined and plays tenor and alto saxophone. She has played in concert along with band director, Paul Denardo of Solid Rock Family Life Center.
After high school Blair would like to attend Howard University in Washington, DC or Duke University in North Carolina to study biochemistry. She has volunteered with Ticket to Success, sponsored by School District 2 to help new middle schoolers with orientation and navigating the school campus.
Blair has Type 1 diabetes. She has become adept at self-ministering and checking her blood glucose levels, which is a huge accomplishment. Blair’s mentor is her stepdad, Devante Woods. He guides her through life and is always available to teach life skills. Blair is a proud African American Albino. Her stepdad has taught her that different does not mean less or incapable. Her differences make her unique. Blair believes that striving and aiming for perfection in everything she does is a gift.
Blair has attended the African American Youth Leadership Conference for one year and has enjoyed learning to embrace the traditions, histories and cultures of her community.
