Student of the Month - April 2021 (Ciera Bowens)

As a current junior at Mesa Ridge High School in Colorado Springs,  Ciera is a star shining bright. Holding a GPA of 3.8, this aspiring songstress is making waves at her school. As an active member of the volleyball, basketball, and tennis teams, she is no stranger to hard work, commitment, and teamwork. The work does not end on the courts. She is a recipient of her school’s “Presidential Award.”  Ciera also loves to serve her community through her church’s food pantry. With a strong aspiration to top America’s music charts, Ciera is keeping her academics in focus and setting her sights on a four-year college after she graduates.

Because of determination, it is no wonder that Ciera finds her greatest strength in her life’s mentor, her mother, Tianna Bowens. For it is through her that Ciera has learned that life will give you some peaks and valleys.  The best way to get through them is to never give up.

Ciera has attended the AAYLC conference for five years and looks forward to attending next year. She has used the conference as a means of being able to connect to her community. She has  discovered potential for her future, made new friends, enjoyed entertainment, and learned beyond what the textbooks taught in a classroom.
