Student of the Month - February 2019 (Godwin Innis)
Godwin Innis is an eighth grader at Mountain Vista Community School with a 3.81 GPA. He hopes to earn a scholarship from Penn State University, and obtain a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering or Bio Science. Godwin believes that science holds the key to changing the world and how people view things every day.
Not only does Godwin excel academically, he is also talented and dedicated to helping others. He built a website, plays soccer, and loves origami. Godwin participates in his school’s Knowledge Bowl, where he competes against other schools answering questions about culture, geography, history and more. In his community, he has assisted with fundraising and distributing fliers for events.
Godwin’s mentor is Amanda Ducker, an AVID (Advanced Via Individual Determination) teacher. AVID is a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college. She encourages all her students to do their best and helps them attain their goals.
Godwin has attended the African American Youth Leadership Conference (AAYLC) for the past two years. He has learned that with the right support and motivation, everything is possible! He is fascinated by the various presenter’s stories and how they’ve attained their careers while also giving back along the way.
