Student of the Month - May 2019 (Hailey Morales)

Hailey Morales is a senior at The Village at The Academy on-line, located in Colorado Springs, CO. She enjoys anatomy, the branch of science concerned with the bodily structure of humans, animals and other living organisms, as well as physiology, the branch of biology that deals with normal functions of living organisms and their parts.
 

Despite being diagnosed in 7th grade with dyslexia (a specific learning disability that is neurobiological in origin), Hailey has managed to maintain a 3.2 GPA.  She has a passion for creative arts, specifically creative movement and dance.  Hailey has danced since she was 3 years old and has been a competitive dancer since she was 5 years old.
 

Hailey will attend the performing arts school, Theatre Arts Preparatory School (TAPS) in Las Vegas, NV in the fall.  She auditioned and received a TAPS Scholarship.  Hailey will train in multiple forms of dance,  acting, voice and musical theatre. . This intensive training program was designed to springboard college-age dancers/performers into a professional career.  Her ultimate dream is to perform on Broadway and open a talent agency for people with special needs.
 

Hailey has volunteered with the Special Olympics of Colorado Springs and with the “15th of December Show”, which benefits the Colorado Springs Down Syndrome Association. She also teaches a weekly dance class for children with special needs.  Her mentors have been Helen Estrella of Motion Dance Center and Jenni Kemper of Kemper Dance Academy. They have shown their willingness to share knowledge and expertise helping dancers across all abilities and levels. They provide motivation and guidance with on-going learning and growth in the field of creative movement. Hailey’s  determination and creativity will take her far.
