Student of the Month - March 2022 (Mateen Saeed-Briggs)
As a professional photographer in the making, Mateen Saeed-Briggs has played an instrumental role both in front of and behind the camera. With a 3.65 GPA, this freshman at Harrison High School recognizes the impact of storytelling through pictures. Mateen’s love of history helps him to understand the significance of photos communicating past events. He strives to convey his narrative for the future. Mateen aspires to attend a HBCU studying photojournalism.
Mateen is constantly looking for ways to strengthen his skills. He has learned the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork by playing on his school football and track teams. He has participated in Elevated, Avid, ECOC, Peak Education, Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), and the National Junior Honor Society.
His mentors, Ms. Wright and Ms. Spice, have done a fantastic job laying out a path for success through the Elevated program. Mateen has capitalized on his experiences by becoming a mentor to younger youth in his community.
As a three-year attendee of the AAYLC, Mateen has seen the positive impact that the conference brings. He has learned how to flourish through adversity and become a strong male role model.
