Student of the Month - March 2019 (Paula Gennitti)
Paula Gennitti is a sophomore at St. Mary’s High School in Colorado Springs. After high school she plans to join the Air Force and train as a paramedic and emergency medical technician. This work experience will be used as a stepping stone towards Paula’s dream of becoming a trauma surgeon.
Paula loves speech, public speaking and communication. She recognizes that public speaking is a valuable tool that will help her throughout her life. Paula enjoys speaking to inform and persuade others while minimizing her nervousness, knowing her audience, being organized, using humor to grab audience attention, and closing with a dynamic ending.
Paula is patient, caring, kind and has a passion for helping others. She has volunteered at Penrose Hospital for over a year in the O.R. department, where she works closely with Physician Assistants. Paula is currently on the council for Youth Voice within her church community. She is also a co-teacher for a catechism class where she assists with lesson plans and shadows the teacher to help engage students in learning.
Paula’s mentor is her mom, Laura, who has always given her advice and support to follow her dreams. She was introduced to the African American Youth Leadership Conference (AAYLC) by Ms. Vanessa Little. Paula believes the conference has made a huge impact in helping her strive for excellence.
