Student of the Month - June 2022 (Tyson Culver)
If there is an Avid Reader Hall of Fame, Tyson Culver should definitely be inducted. This ambitious 7th grader from Mountain Ridge Middle School set a lofty goal of reading 100 books during the 2021-2022 school year. He met and exceeded his goal by reading a whopping 130 books! Tyson intends to read even more books during the summer to keep his mind sharp and skills alive.
When he is not breezing through a pile of books and working hard to maintain his 4.0 GPA, Tyson enjoys taking piano lessons, participating in MATHCOUNTS, and being a member of his school's Cross-Country team. He counts among his many accomplishments running a 10k race in under one hour. That means he averaged running a little over a mile every 10 minutes! Tyson is also sure to set aside time to give back to our community by volunteering with the Pikes Peak United Way at their monthly food distributions.
Tyson credits his mentor, Dr. Christine Draper (TAG teacher at Mountain Ridge Middle School), with making learning fun and being a good teacher. His favorite subject is Industrial Manufacturing because he enjoys working with saws and other tools. He thoroughly enjoyed learning about metals and compounds during one of our past conferences. After graduating from high school, Tyson intends to attend college and pursue a career as a veterinarian. We have no doubt that this well-rounded student will make a difference in the world of caring for animals. We look forward to seeing Tyson at the 2023 AAYLC!
