Student of the Month - January 2020 (Tyson McKenzie)

Tyson McKenzie is a freshman at Harrison High School with a 3.98 GPA.  As a member of the Junior National Honor Society, he has taught himself to code and is a highly acclaimed technologist.  Tyson aspires to attend MIT or another University with a state-of-the-art technology program.  He dreams of double majoring in Computer Science and Cyber Security which will ultimately lead him to become the CEO of his own technology company.

Tyson thrives on challenge. He strives to do well in his Advancement Placement (AP) classes because he knows they are getting him ready for college.  He currently participates in his school’s Student Government cabinet and has remained on the honor role since entering school.  Tyson understands the importance of giving back to his community and actively volunteers throughout the year.  He is also involved with an all-boys mentorship program called Touch of Life.

Tyson’s mentor is his mom who has taught him to always believe in himself and pushed him to be the best he can be.  He has attended the African American Youth Leadership Conference for the past three years.   Tyson appreciates the diverse selection of sessions available.
