At just 17 years old, Malik Huerta, a senior at Fountain Fort Carson High School, is already building a powerful foundation for leadership, service, and impact. With a 3.7 GPA and an impressive list of achievements, Malik embodies the spirit of dedication, resilience, and community leadership that defines a Crown Scholar.
 

Malik plans to attend Colorado State University–Pueblo after graduation, where he will study business. He is passionate about developing the skills needed to become a successful business leader while creating lasting impact in his community. Malik hopes to build strong networks of mentors and peers, pursue meaningful projects, and achieve financial independence so he can continue giving back to others.
 

A well-rounded leader on campus, Malik is actively involved in numerous organizations including FBLA, Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA), Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC), Black History Club, Speech and Debate, Varsity Wrestling, and Varsity Football. His commitment to excellence also extends to athletics, where he earned 3rd place All-Star honors at the University of Nebraska Wrestling Camp.
 

Service is at the heart of Malik’s journey. As the son of a service member, he has moved frequently, but no matter where he lives he finds ways to give back. Malik has contributed over 300 hours of community service, including volunteering at Loaves and Fishes homeless shelter, where he helps serve meals and supports individuals experiencing housing insecurity. Through his volunteerism, Malik also works to raise awareness about homelessness and inspire others to show compassion and take action in their communities.
 

Beyond academics and service, Malik’s talents include wrestling and public speaking, and he enjoys staying active in the gym and spending time with his younger siblings. Malik credits his greatest inspiration to his faith and his mother, whose guidance, love, and wisdom have shaped his values of integrity, perseverance, and humility. Their example motivates him to lead with purpose and strive for excellence in everything he does.​​
