Crown Scholar - August 2025 (Nayellie Herrera)

Nayellie Herrera is a passionate and driven senior at Harrison High School, holding a 3.7 GPA and aspiring to enter the medical field. A three-year participant in the UCCS Pre-Collegiate Program, Nayellie is inspired daily by her mother, whom she calls her biggest supporter and role model. Her love for science, math, biology, and history fuels her ambition to become a healthcare professional.
Nayellie’s accomplishments reflect her leadership and commitment to service. She helped launch her school’s first food pantry, completed a paid internship with Solid Rock Community Development Corporation, and now serves as their Youth Program Coordinator. She is CPR certified and also holds certifications in Mental Behavioral Awareness and “Save a Life: Stop the Bleed Trauma.” She is currently pursuing her second medical translator certification and teaches basic computer skills in Spanish while introducing cybersecurity to younger students.
Her community involvement is extensive. She has volunteered with Care and Share, Catholic Charities, the Salvation Army, Family Success Center, and the Special Olympics. She coaches youth soccer, supports mobile consulate events, and shares local resources on her Facebook page, “Nayellie’s Page.” Her efforts earned her the 2024 Colorado Lottery People’s Choice Starburst Award for her role in developing Paranormal Park, and she’s been featured in The Gazette for her modeling role in “Women of the World: An International Women’s Day Celebration.”
In addition to playing and coaching soccer and boxing competitively, Nayellie is known in her neighborhood as a go-to resource for community needs. Her motivation, service, and leadership make her a standout scholar. She looks forward to attending the AAYLC next year and continuing to make a lasting impact through her education and community efforts.
